Where to Stay in Sigiriya, and
How to Choose Your Cottage

Seven cottages in four kinds, for a couple up to a family of four. Tell us who is coming and we will say which one fits, and whether it is free.

Seven small glamping cottages, built by hand in mud and timber, and no two came out quite the same. The trees close in over the roofs, and hornbills come through at dusk.

Where We Are

A Quieter Road, 12 Minutes From the Rock

Many of the places to stay in Sigiriya are in the village itself, close enough to walk to the rock, or out along the road towards Habarana. The cottages are at Indigas wewa instead, a few minutes past the Sigiriya junction, on a quieter road lined with trees.

That means a tuk-tuk to the rock rather than a walk, and the safari jeep collects you from the cottage for the 20-minute run to Minneriya. For one night before a dawn climb, the village is the simpler choice. For two nights or more, the quiet is worth the ride. If you are still weighing it up, here is how the nature stays around Sigiriya compare.

Whichever You Choose

What Every Cottage Has in Common

These come with every cottage at no extra charge, so the choice comes down to beds and space.

Air Conditioning

All seven have it. It earns its keep in March and April, when the dry zone is at its hottest.

A Garden View From Every Door

Every cottage opens straight onto the garden, and that is where the mornings are spent. Bring binoculars: the birds in the garden are up long before breakfast.

Breakfast, Included

Pittu, hoppers, string hoppers and egg roti, cooked fresh each morning and served under the trees, with a Western breakfast on request. It comes with every booking.

    Good to Know

Questions Guests Ask Before They Book

    How Many Cottages Are There?

Seven, in four kinds: two Double Room Cottages, two Triple Room Cottages, one Quadruple Family Cottage and two Economy Quadruple Cottages, which share one building. Being this small, we can usually keep a cottage for a late arrival or bring breakfast forward, as long as you tell us in advance.

Do the Cottages Have Air Conditioning?

Yes, every cottage does, at no extra charge, with hot water in every bathroom and a fan in every cottage except the Triple Room Cottage. You will be glad of the air conditioning in March and April, the hottest weeks of the year here.

What Time Is Check-In and Check-Out?

Check in from 2pm to 11pm and check out from 8am to noon. Arriving later is fine if you let us know, because someone can be reached at any hour, and if your cottage is free the following night we can usually let you stay on past noon.

    Is There a Pool?

Yes. Every guest can use the swimming pool, at no extra charge. There is no spa, and evenings are spent in the garden, by the outdoor fireplace or under the lanterns.

    Can Families Stay Here?

Yes, and children of any age are welcome. Four can sleep in the Quadruple Family Cottage or in an Economy Quadruple Cottage, and three in a Triple Room Cottage. There are no cots or extra beds, and anyone 13 or over counts as an adult, so tell us the ages when you ask and we will suggest the cottage that fits.

How Far Is Sigiriya Rock From the Cottages?

12 minutes by road, and we can have a tuk-tuk at the door. Pidurangala is about 15 minutes, the Minneriya park gate 20 and Dambulla 25, and every other distance, from the airport to Kandy, is on the location and getting here page.
